Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports Deputies assigned to the Erie County Holding Center discovered marijuana, matches and rolling paper on a female visitor who attempted to pass the contraband to an inmate.
Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., a female subject entered the Erie County Holding Center to visit an inmate. During the non-contact visit, a Deputy observed the inmate acting oddly and positioned himself near a door where he made a throwing motion. The Deputy contacted a Sergeant who began searching the visitation area where he discovered a string run under a door. The visit was ended and the inmate was immediately removed and searched by Deputies – nothing was discovered.
Meanwhile, the Sergeant located a small package tightly wrapped with an agent to mask the odor of the contraband; however K9 Bili made a positive alert on the illegal package. The Sergeant ordered the visitor be searched and an additional package containing marijuana, rolling papers and matches was discovered.
Subsequently, Deveita Arnold, 29 of Buffalo, was arrested and charged with an E Felony – knowingly introducing dangerous contraband into a prison and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Arnold is currently housed at the holding center awaiting arraignment on Wednesday in Buffalo City Court
