Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of an individual for causing a three vehicle accident on Wednesday, October 8, around 8 a.m.
Erie County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit was called to investigate an accident on Wehrle Drive in Amherst. The responding deputies interviewed all drivers involved and determined that Michael Rizzo, 51 of Buffalo, fell asleep while driving.
Rizzo was taken to Erie County Medical Center for chemical testing where the results indicated that he was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Deputies charged Michael Rizzo with Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs – a misdemeanor, Failure to Stay in Lane of Road, speeding and failure to obey a traffic device – all misdemeanors.
Rizzo was released to a third party on Appearance Tickets and faces a future court date
