Erie County Undersheriff Mark Wipperman reports the arrest of two out of town women on larceny and gun charges on Tuesday, September 30 at the Wal-Mart in the Village of Springville.
Employees of the Wal-Mart called the Sheriff’s office to report two females shoplifting merchandise. Deputy Robert Ellis responded to the complaint and viewed the in-store video surveillance to identify the suspects.
Deputy Ellis located the two suspects at a nearby hotel and interviewed them regarding the shoplifting complaint. One of the suspects emptied the contents of her purse on the hotel bed when the stolen merchandise and a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol fell out. Subsequently Ashley Ball, 19 of North Carolina and Lauren Calderon, 22 of Virginia, were arrested by Deputy Ellis.
Each was charged with Misdemeanor Petit Larceny and Ball faces an extra charge for Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Both suspects were transported to the Erie County Holding Center and were being held without bail pending a court appearance in Springville Court.
