  • DWI Arrest #180 - Mooney
    Posted On: Sep 15, 2014
Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the early evening arrest of a Depew woman for Felony DWI and numerous other charges following her one-car property damage accident in the Town of Clarence.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Kristin Rozycki responded to Salt Rd. at Clarence Center Rd. in the Town of Clarence about 8:00pm Saturday night for a report of a vehicle in the ditch.
Upon arrival, Deputy Rozycki was speaking with the driver, 21 y/o Melinda R. Mooney of Irving Terr. in the Village of Depew, and further investigating her possible intoxication when Mooney began to run away. Deputy Rozycki chased after Mooney on foot and was able to catch up to her a short distance away. A struggle ensued with Mooney and she was taken into custody without further incident.
She was found to be uninjured from the accident but intoxicated and arrested for DWI, Obstruction of Gov't Administration, and Resisting Arrest. Mooney had a prior DWI conviction, making this DWI arrest a Felony charge. She refused all further DWI testing. Mooney continued to offer Deputy Rozycki anything and everything to let her go free and she was subsequently charged with Bribery 3rd degree.
Her vehicle was towed from the scene and she was taken to the Erie County Holding Center and held for arraignment in the Town of Clarence Court.
This was the 180th DWI arrest by the Erie County Sheriff's Office this year.
