Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the early evening arrest of a Clarence man for DWI following a two vehicle property damage only crash in the Town of Newstead.
Erie County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Szkatulski responded to a reported two vehicle property damage only crash on Cedar St. and Carney Rd. in the Town of Newstead around 6:00pm Tuesday night.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a vehicle driven by 55 y/o Douglas J. McCall of Main St. in Clarence was making an illegal U-turn in the intersection and struck another vehicle that was stopped at the stop sign at the same intersection. Both vehicles had moderate damage and there were no injuries.
Upon further interview and field sobriety tests, it was discovered that McCall was intoxicated.
He was arrested and charged with DWI and multiple traffic infractions. McCall submitted to a chemical breath test which resulted in a .21% BAC, almost three times the legal limit.
He was later released to a third party on appearance tickets to the Town of Newstead Court at a later date.
Deputy Szkatulski was assisted at the scene by the State Police.
This was the 156th DWI arrest by the Erie County Sheriff's Office this year.
