Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of Barry Hollis on a separate sexual assault incident involving a minor.
Late Thursday evening on August 7, Detective Dan Brinkerhoff arrested Barry Hollis, 35, for raping and sexually assaulting a minor. After Hollis’ arrest last month for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor at a local amusement park, Detectives received several tips on the Erie County Sheriff’s Confidential Email/Tip service.
One of those tips led Detective Brinkerhoff to investigate incidents that happened in the late summer and early fall of 2013. The first incident allegedly happened at a Hamburg beach. Hollis initiated a relationship with the minor posing as a 17 year old boy. After gaining the victim’s trust, Hollis supposedly raped his victim. Hollis continued to misrepresent himself as a teenage boy to further the relationship and take advantage of the victim for a second time.
On Thursday evening, Hollis, with his attorney present, turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Grand Island substation to Detective Brinkerhoff. Later, he was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment. Hollis is charged with a felony count of 2nd Degree Rape of a Minor, felony count of Criminal Sexual Act with a minor and a misdemeanor for injuring a minor.
Working with the District Attorney’s office, the Sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant for Hollis’ vehicle. The vehicle is impounded and will be processed for evidence at a later date.
