Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard announces that Crystal Bonek, age 22, was sentenced July 17, in Buffalo City Court after she attempted to smuggle a narcotic into the Erie County Holding Center in January 2014. During her appearance in city court, Bonek was arrested a second time for possessing a straw and baggie with a small amount of cocaine.
On January 16, Bonek was attempting to visit an unidentified holding center inmate. Acting on information obtained by Sheriff’s Narcotic Detectives, Bonek was identified and interviewed by Detectives. During the interview she was observed swallowing contraband and after a search of her vehicle, Detectives discovered a Soboxone strip and three and a half oxymorphone tablets.
Bonek was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband into a prison, both misdemeanors. She was also charged with a felony for concealing/destroying physical evidence. Crystal Bonek was issued an appearance ticket for Buffalo City Court.
When Bonek appeared before Buffalo City Court Judge Kevin Keane, she was found to possess a baggie and straw containing a small amount of cocaine residue. Crystal Bonek was arrested on new charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband into a prison (second contraband charge), both misdemeanors.
Crystal Bonek was sentence by Buffalo City Court Judge Kevin Keane to one year was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.
