Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of a Niagara Falls man on charges of sexually abusing an eight year old child. The incident occurred in the Town of Grand Island on June 22.
After an investigation by Erie County Sheriff’s Detectives Dan Brinkerhoff and Emily Nelson-Gerken, Barry Hollis, age 36, of Porter Avenue in the Falls was charged with felony sexual abuse in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a child.
During the Detectives’ investigation it was discovered that Hollis, a.k.a Michael Nofear, planned his visit to Grand Island two weeks in advance. Detectives also discovered that Hollis made frequent visits to parks in the area.
Sheriff Howard urges parents, “Please be aware of the area you are visiting and always make sure to keep your children in sight; know where they are going and arrange that they at not left alone.”
“Reinforcing the old rule of ‘don’t talk to strangers’ with your children and teaching them to shout for help and call 911 if they are threatened by a stranger can help prevent these incidents,” said Howard.
Hollis was taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in Grand Island Town Court. Further details are not being released due to the age of the victim.
